Playoffs
The Playoffs will be held at James St. Billiards on Saturday April 7th. The doors open at 10:00 with play starting at 10:30. As in previous years, there will be an 'A' and 'B' division unless we have a shortage of teams.
Also, we have received some feed back regarding the Easter Weekend date chosen for the Playoffs. Unfortunately, while we initial tried to use a different weekend, the Pool Hall was unavailable for any other date. We apologize for any Easter Egg hunts (or more serious matters) this may interfere with. If you are unable to field a team for the Playoffs, please get in touch with use and let use know. The minimum requirement to field a team is 4 players who have played at least four weeks in the league.
Banquet
The year-end banquet will be held at the Nanaimo Curling Club on Saturday April 14th. The doors open at 6:30 and dinner will be served at 7 pm. Banquet tickets are $20 / person for league players and their guests, payable at the Playoffs. League members will be reimbursed their $20 upon arrival at the Banquet.
Perpetual Trophies & Other Things
For those winners of last years perpetual trophies (Top Male, Top Female, Most Sportmanlike, etc..), please remember to bring your trophy to the Playoffs. This will allow us time to have the names engraved for the new winners.

Match News
Onto the final regular week of the season and the league champions are still not decided! After this week all that remains are the make-up matches but we'll need them to determine the winner!
But first, the Rackers posted a win in their final match over Well Stroked and the Hooksters put the barb into the Woodies.
The Westcoasters saved the best for last, winning their final match while hosting the G-Strings and snackin' on their Chicken Wings.
...and now onto the leaderboard...
8-Balls and a pocket took over top spot with their victory over the non-Rookies in a match that came down to the final game.
But here is where it gets absolutely crazy...
While the Piranaz did win their March 12th match against the Rack of Wolves leaving them two points behind the 8-Balls and the Thundersticks stumbled with their loss to the Knight Sticks (again - who are these sticks of the night??) seemingly placing them out of the race it's not that simple.
The Piranaz AND Thundersticks have TWO makeup matches to play and both of them are happening tonight. AGAINST EACH OTHER! How cool is that? Either team can secure the league championship by sweeping their opponent!
More news to come when we receive the final score sheets!

Again the Thundersticks and Piranaz posted wins against the Woodies and Well Stroked respectively but the 8-Balls got nipped by the Rack of Wolves when Stacy Wallington ran out in the final game to give them a 2 point victory!. That might be enough to make it a two horse race to the finish!
The Knight Sticks continued their dominating ways against the G-Strings.
Not Rookies anymore snapped their two match losing streak with a win over the Westcoasters but the Rackers were not able to get a winning streak going, losing to the Hooksters 158-122.

The Knight Sticks had another commanding win against Not Rookies anymore while Well Stroked and G-Strings and Chicken Wings were locked into a death match separarted only be 6 points, the G-Strings winning 297-291!
The Rackers wandered across the highway to beat the Firkin' Woodies on their home ground 152-132.
The Thundersticks chalked up another win with their victory of the Hooksters, Brad and Serge both joing the Shark club (nice work!) but the Piranaz, their main rival in the race to the finish for the top of the league fell to the 8-Balls in what looks to be a good three-way dead heat heading into the final weeks. | | League News - February 25,2012

Match News
Although the non-Rookies mounted an impressive comeback winning all four games of the final round, Well Stroked managed to squeaked out a 6 point win. The Knight sticks however rode into a solid 40 point win against the Wolves and the Hooksters got revenge over the G-Strings splitting their season series 1-1. The Piranaz and Thundersticks continued their winning ways against the Westcoasters and Rackers respectively.
This week also saw the return of Trevor Peoples but even the luck of the Irishman was not enough in the Firkin' Woodie's defeat to 8 Balls without a pocket.

Match News
Well Stroked manage to take down the Rack of Wolves who are right above them in the standings after a couple of weeks of tough matches but their sister team, the Hooksters seem to be on a bit of a skid now losing two in a row in a close match 147-136 against those no longer rookies.
Speaking of close, the Piranaz squeeked out their win against the Knight sticks by 2 points, even after losing the last two games of the match. Yikes! The Piranaz continue to show they have what it takes to win the whole season outright!
The 8-balls hosted the Westcoasters but Marty stole the show helping defeat his guests and earning his spot in the Shark club this week. Great work Marty!
The Firkin' Woodies managed to complete their sweep against the Ladysmith teams with 14 point win over the powerful thundersticks this week. Not an easy task. Mean while, the G-Strings managed to snap their six game losing streak by defeating the Rackers who were on a little a bit of a streak themselves having won the last three weeks in a row.
The stats are now up to date!
A reminder to all - the John Alain 'run-out' trophy awarded at the end of each year; make sure you mark those run-outs, etc.. when you get them!

E/F/N
No, EFN is not an acronym for how often you eat pizza. Rather, this system of recording 'special' games was adopted (as well as this point system) from the BCA leagues that are prevelant on this continent.
There has been some confustion as to how this works. Although the terminology is somewhat non-descriptive it is a standard in the amatuer billiards world so we should all know what it means and how it works. In any given game for a specific player, there is an opportunity for a 'special' (their word, not mine). When this happens, the appropriate letter is placed in the circle on the score sheet. A game can only be one kind of special game. The letter codes, names, and descriptions of the specials are as follows:
| Letter code |
Name |
Description |
| E |
ERO (Eight-Ball Run Out |
There are two, and only two instances where an ERO can occur.
- The breaking players makes a ball on the break and then proceeds to (legally, obviously) run out the table, winning the game thereby quashing any opportunity for his opponent to approach the table.
- The breaking player BREAKS DRY leaving ALL 15 BALLS (plus Cue-Ball) and AN OPEN TABLE for his opponent. The opposing player then proceeds to run out the table in a single inning and wins the game, there by earning the ERO.
When a player scores an ERO, the other player automatically gets a 'N'. See below
|
| |
| F |
First Attempt or First Shot |
The First Attempt is similiar, but not identical to the ERO. The First Attempt is scored anytime a player steps up to the table and proceeds to run out all of his or her balls, including the 8-ball, during his or her first attempt at the table in a single inning thereby winning the game and there were NOT 15 balls (plus Cue-ball) on the table when he started. Note: The breaking player is not eligible to earn a 'First Attempt' |
| |
| N |
No Shot After the Break |
This one is fairly easy. A player is awarded an N anytime they are not afforded the opportunity to shoot in the game following the opening break shot. Every ERO has a corresponding N (No Shot). You don't shoot - you get an N. Note, 'N's are not restricted to losers. A 'N' can also be awarded to a player when his opponent loses the game (by scratching on the eight, e.g.) before the player shoots. |
